Confinement and organization of liquid crystals within inorganic materials

 Régis Guégan

In this contribution, a small overview will be given about the impact of topological constraints and possible confinement effects that soft materials (liquid crystal and surfactants) may undergo when they are confined in 1D and 2D geometry porous materials: MCM-41, porous silicon and layered materials and nanosheets forming liquid crystalline phases as organic moieties do. The confinement seriously impacts both the dynamics as well as the organization of the organic moieties that may follow the geometry of the porous network of the inorganic materials.
