Jan Demel

Biography

Jan Demel was born in Prague (Czech Republic) in 1981. He received his Masters Degree from the Charles University in 2005 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the same university in 2009. The topic of the doctoral thesis was Immobilized Palladium Catalysts which was jointly done at the Charles University and J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Prof. P. Štěpnička and Prof. J. Čejka. He then moved to the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences for post-doc and he is working there since.

Demels’ research interested is the study of organic-inorganic hybrid materials ranging from layered hydroxides, coordination polymers to porous structures, often with photophysical properties. In recent years he has focused on the preparation and characterization of phosphinic acid based coordination polymers and MOFs with the emphasis on isoreticular chemistry, tailoring size of pores and functionalities for specific applications.
